Chanakya National Law University was started at the behest of the Government of Bihar to provide quality legal education in Bihar and enable the talented students from Bihar to realize their true potential. With this aim in mind, an ordinance by the name of Chanakya National Law University (Ordinance No.5 of 2006) was promulgated by His Excellency, the Governor of Bihar. Later it was passed by the legislature and the Governor gave his assent on 16th August, 2006.
 
ELIGIBILITY
Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or equivalent Examination with not less than 45% of marks in the aggregate. Those appearing for March/April 2007 Exam can also apply.

AGE LIMIT
Below 21 years as on 1st July (23 years in case of SC/ST/OBC/Girls and Physically challenged candidates).

TOTAL SEATS
80 (Sixty seats on merit through Entrance Test, 20 seats direct admission for foreign nationals on merit. Vacant seats, if any, under this category will be taken to general pool).
